Explore Spelling (ages 5-14)

Students learn to spell starting with the standard phonic range and working through to complex, subject specific vocabulary.

Younger children learn the skills to decode and recognise spelling patterns as an integral part of their phonics programme at Explore.  Children begin working through the list of ‘common words’ and then move on to more complex, subject specific vocabulary.

Explore Spelling uses Spelling Force, an engaging resource for testing spellings and building spelling knowledge through practice.  This course is carefully designed for poor, average and excellent spellers of all ages.  The games in Spelling Force play an important part in helping children to commit spellings to memory.   As we recognise the importance of children being able to apply what they have learnt to their writing, we also incorporate spelling practice into all of our English courses.

The Main Benefits:

1. Improvement in spelling skills for every child
The course includes word banks covering the National Curriculum Key Stage lists, Phonics, Frequency Words and Difficult Words. Tutors can even personalise the course to each child by entering their own words to make a unique spelling list.

2. Children enjoy spelling!
The course includes motivating space-age games which suit children of different learning styles.  High scores and awards in the games motivate children to record words quicker and with better accuracy each time they use it.

3. Parental feedback

The system allows staff to access comprehensive records for each student which are then reviewed in parent conferences.  Equipped with a list of a child's current hard words, tutors can set individual tasks and identify difficult word patterns.
